BBC Launches Women, Trans, Femme, Non-Binary (WTFN) “Faster Together” Mentorship Program
The BBC Faster Together mentorship program kicked off in September 2021 with 11 mentees and 9 mentors for an initial 3-month commitment. In this pilot phase, the program serves and is served by WTFN club members.
If the pilot is deemed successful, BBC will re-open the program for additional mentors and mentees to participate.
The Faster Together program was developed after some WTFN members expressed interest in learning more about racing and riding in fast-paced, sprint-motivated groups. The Faster Together organizers developed an intake form for mentors and mentees to better understand interest, offerings, and goals. Organizers then paired mentors and mentees with each other to align goals and skills.
Of the mentees participating in the pilot program, there are riders who want to race and those who do not; road and gravel cyclists, and a range of skill levels. Mentors come from both professional and amateur cycling and are enthusiastic about supporting more WTFN getting involved in the sport and having a positive experience on the bike.
Program details snapshot:
3-month mentorship (Oct, Nov, Dec)
Mentors and mentees are paired to align goals and skills
Mentors and mentees meet 1-on-1 to determine preferred communication cadence and desired outcomes from time together
Mentors meet monthly to share out challenges and learnings about how to be a good mentor, and other insights into how to best support the club’s WTFN membership
A final survey will go out to mentors and mentees to learn how the pilot program went; if we want to expand it, and if so, how to improve it
