Growing the Next Generation of Cyclists and Fostering Local Amateur Bike Racing

At Berkeley Bike Club and Berkeley Omnium, our mission is simple and unwavering: grow the next generation of cyclists and foster local amateur bike racing.

Bike racing doesn’t thrive on elite results alone. It grows when kids discover the joy of riding, when juniors feel supported at their first start line, and when local amateurs see a future in the sport. That belief drives everything we do.

Racing With Purpose

Every dollar raised through Berkeley Omnium goes straight back into the community. All event proceeds support the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) teams in the East Bay, helping young riders access coaching, equipment, and race opportunities they might not otherwise have.

Mentorship at the Core

BBC members don’t just race; they mentor. Many of our club members volunteer their time and expertise as mentors at Early Bird and Late Bird programs, guiding newer riders through skills, confidence-building, and race fundamentals. That hands-on mentorship is how passion turns into long-term participation.

Investing in THE FUTURE, From First Ride to Finish Line

Our commitment shows up across every stage of a rider’s journey:

  • Club member sponsored the Skyline NICA Team to help youth riders stay in the sport.

  • Club sponsored Monarch Juniors, ensuring juniors can race and develop in a supportive environment.

  • Support for BBCjr, helping kids get started on bicycles and discover the freedom and fun of riding. We’re continually adding bikes to our loaner fleet to help more riders get started.

  • Supported women’s cycling through a donation to Women’s On Track hosted by Eclipse Racing.

  • Club members giving back as mentors at Early Bird and Late Bird

  • All Berkeley Omnium proceeds go to East Bay NICA teams

Why Local Amateur Racing Matters

Local amateur racing is the heartbeat of cycling. It creates accessible entry points, builds lifelong friendships, and forms the pipeline for future mentors, coaches, and organizers. When we invest locally, we strengthen the entire ecosystem—today’s juniors become tomorrow’s leaders.

Looking Ahead

Berkeley Bike Club and Berkeley Omnium will continue to show up for the next generation by mentoring, sponsoring, volunteering, and reinvesting every step of the way. Because when young riders thrive, the sport we love thrives.

If you believe in growing cycling from the ground up, we invite you to be part of the journey—on the bike, on the sidelines, or behind the scenes.
